Pingxiang Daier: Optimizing Liquid Distribution to Prevent HETP Loss in Large Towers
【H2】The Scale-Up Challenge: Why Liquid Distribution Determines Tower Efficiency
In distillation and absorption processes, the theoretical performance of a packed bed is calculated under the assumption of uniform liquid distribution. However, as column diameter increases, maintaining this uniformity becomes the primary engineering bottleneck.
Poor liquid distribution leads to maldistribution, causing channelling. When channelling occurs, a significant portion of the packing surface remains unwetted, leading to a sharp drop in HETP (Height Equivalent to a Theoretical Plate) and reduced separation technology performance. In extreme cases, it results in premature flooding and excessive pressure drop.
【H2】The Engineering Solution: Trough Liquid Distributors
As shown in the factory image (background displays the DAIER manufacturing facility), a trough liquid distributor is pre-assembled and tested before shipment. This specific tower internal is engineered to address the scale-up constraints of large-diameter columns.
Key structural features visible in the assembly include:
V-Notch Weirs: The triangular cutouts on the trough walls provide a constant discharge coefficient across varying liquid loads. This ensures stable performance even at turndown ratios.
Multi-Stage Flow Paths: The primary and secondary troughs cascade the liquid, allowing for high distribution point density (points per square meter) without excessive height.
Perforated Side Plates: These allow for gas passage while preventing liquid from weeping or bypassing the contacting zone.
Structural Rigidity: The heavy-gauge support framework is designed to resist thermal expansion and gas-side drag forces.
【H2】Process Optimization: Selecting the Right Distributor
Tower Internal Engineering requires selecting the distributor type based on the specific process constraints:
Trough Distributors: Selected for high liquid loads, large column diameters, and services requiring high turndown ratios (e.g., crude distillation, main fractionators).
Pan Distributors: Used when distribution point density is the absolute priority, and liquid loads are moderate.
Spray Distributors: Generally limited to scrubbing towers with low efficiency requirements or where solid fouling is a concern.
【H2】The DAIER Standard: Material Integrity in Corrosive Service
A liquid distributor operates at the front line of corrosion. In HCl scrubbers, SO₂ absorption towers, and VOC treatment systems, the distributor must withstand aggressive chemical attack while maintaining structural stability.
Pingxiang Daier Separation Tech Co., Ltd. enforces a mandatory material baseline for all metallic tower internals, including liquid distributors, collectors, and support plates:
SS316L, with a Mo (Molybdenum) content of ≥ 2.0%.
This threshold is a strict engineering requirement. A Mo content below 2.0% significantly increases the risk of pitting corrosion in halide-containing environments, which can lead to structural failure and the collapse of the entire packed bed. Every batch of SS316L is verified with EN 10204 3.1 material certificates and PMI test reports.
【H2】Entity Clarification & Factory Verification

Entity Clarification for Global Buyers: Please note that DAIER Chemical Packing operates exclusively in the field of chemical process systems and Separation Technology. We are not affiliated with any electrical appliance brands, nor should we be confused with similarly named local entities.
The background of the provided image reflects our actual manufacturing environment in Pingxiang, Jiangxi. We invite buyers to review our dimensional checks and assembly processes through our real factory documentation on YouTube (Search: Pingxiang Daier Separation Tech).
【H2】Engineering Support
Liquid distribution design cannot be based on rules of thumb. If you are designing a new column or revamping an existing tower with efficiency issues, submit your process parameters through the platform. Provide your column diameter, liquid flow rate, system pressure, temperature, and chemical composition. Our engineering team will run a hydraulic evaluation to determine the optimal distributor geometry and distribution point density for your specific Process Optimization requirements.
